The Farmington Valley Quilter's Guild, a Not for Profit organization, was
established on January 16, 1991. This is a vibrant, enthusiastic, and
artistically diverse group of 135 creative and productive members. The
Farmington Valley Quilter's Guild offers members and guests artistic
inspiration, opportunities for community service, educational workshops, social
connection, and avenues for creative expression. Membership is open to
anyone who is interested in quilting. No previous experience is required.
Guests are always welcome to attend meetings. There is a $5.00 guest fee.
Ongoing activities of the guild include: Friendship Blocks, NeoNatal Quilts, A
Better Chance Quilt Project, National Quilt Challenge, and retreats. National
and local guest speakers present trunk shows, workshops and lectures
throughout the year. These presentations provide our members with an
intimate look at noted authors, quilt pattern and fabric designers, textile
artisans, and expert quilting techniques. Some of our past speakers have
included: Carol Doak, Christine Fries-Ureel, Rachel Pellman, Carol Taylor,
Barbara Barrick-McKie, Karen Kay Buckley, Joan Shay, Paula Nadelstern,
Froncie Quinn and Judy Neimeyer, among others.
The meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at Eno
Memorial Hall, 754 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, CT 06070. The meeting begins
at 6:45pm. The annual membership fee of $25 entitles members to monthly
meetings, access to a monthly newsletter, and the opportunity to participate in
Guild sponsored workshops. The membership year runs from July 1 to June
30. Guests are always welcome to attend meetings. A guest fee of $5 is
requested at meetings with a guest speaker. Most meetings include a Show &
Tell by members and either a lecture, demonstration, or hands-on workshop.
Members or nationally known quilters offer workshops throughout the year.
Members of the Guild may participate in several ongoing activities such as
Friendship Blocks and an annual Quilt Challenge. Members may also
participate in the Mystery Quilt, bus trips, the fabric swap program and the
creation of quilts for charitable organizations. The Guild held public quilt
shows in October, 1995, 1998, 2002, 2004 and 2006. Planning is currently
underway for Quilter’s Showcase VI in the fall of 2008.
The Farmington Valley Quilters offers members and guests many
opportunities for inspiration, encouragement, knowledge and friendship.
Membership is open to anyone who is interested in quilting!
